CITY FOR PEACE LONDON 17/18

The City for Peace London programme worked with 6 schools across Newham and saw 30 young people come together and trained to become Young Peace Leaders. Being a diverse borough, Newham hosts people from multiple religious, cultural and national backgrounds, which leaves the area prone to incitement and intimidation due to those who lack an understanding of one another. We were able, to bring together young people, from vastly different backgrounds, cultures, faiths and communities, challenge their pre-disposed mind-sets and attitudes toward others whilst creating a sense of belonging and shared values and collective community responsibility. Through their training the Young Peace Leaders hosted multiple Peace Tournaments engaging the wider young people from different backgrounds across Newham. The Young Peace Leaders also delivered a football session in partnership with NFL team San Francisco 49ers for the wider community. Graduation day saw HRH Princess Katrina honour the achievements of the Young Peace Leaders and all they achieved throughout the programme.

Participating Schools: Chobham Academy, Oasis Silvertown Academy, Little Ilford School, Eastlea Community School, Forest Gate Community School, Lister Community School.

“We must commend the incredible work Football for Peace have undertaken, it is in line with the governments strategy and we are fully supportive of the initiative in using football diplomacy in bringing communities together both in the UK and globally”

Sports Minister Rt Hon Tracey Crouch.
