Cities for Peace is a big idea. It’s a programme created by Football for Peace, that brings together young people from different cultures and faiths, who wouldn’t normally mix, socially or otherwise; to work together, play together, and learn to confront preconceptions, stereotypes and extreme ideologies, through a common passion – football!
Drawing on expertise within the local areas we visit, Football for Peace work to identify communities, both at home and abroad, to take part in the programme. Schools are asked to identify students they believe would benefit the most from being involved with our workshops. Those chosen go on to become our ‘Football for Peace Ambassadors’. The students undergo a number of courses designed to equip them with not only the skills and understanding they’ll need to become a Football for Peace Ambassador, but more importantly, the life skills for the future.
Although a single Peace Match won’t change things alone, it can be the start of the kind of change that makes the difference to young lives and how they see their world.
And that’s something worth playing for.
